Josep Miàs' work gathers all the attention of the Disseny Hub

MIAS Architects is leading the first monographic exhibition the institution is dedicating to an architecture studio.

MIAS Architects, an architecture studio created in 2000 by Josep Miàs, who had previously worked with the architect Enric Miralles is headquartered in Barcelona. Miàs is today a seasonal professor at the University of Sásser and an Architectonic Practice professor at the Bartlett School of Architecture in the University College in London. His work has been published and exhibited internationally in Madrid, Zurich, Berlin, Kyiv, London, Sao Paulo, Singapore and Paris.

His style shines thanks to the unexpected, innovative and experimental proposals combined with his analysis of the social, cultural, historical and economic aspects. In his projects, the research related to structures and the experimentation with new materials, always looking for the most sustainable way, play a major role. All these aspects culminate with the never-seen-before creations such as the Club de Golf Fontanals in the Cerdanya; the transformation of the historic city centre of Banyoles; the new Mercat de la Barceloneta; the interventions at the Parc d'Atraccions del Tibidabo; and the 22@ Puig Building, among others. These works have gained him many awards, such as the International Stone Architecture Award, the Architizer Building of the World Award, the Premi Catalunya Construcció and the Premi Ciutat de Barcelona d'Arquitectura i Urbanisme.

The Exhibition MIAS. The making of making (architecture) occupies a 500 square metres surface that brings visitors closer to the design process of an architectonic project before the cranes arrive through seven concepts: Entre línies, Tot podria ocórrer, Espais onírics, Arxiu, Arquitectura per emportar-se, Raigs X and Superfícies esquinçades.

The tour is made up of sketches, collages, images and more than 40 models from different projects, some of which have been recently exhibited in the Centre Pompidou and are part of the permanent collection of the Parisien museum.

The architect Izaskun Chinchilla will launch the debate The making of making, with the participation of Josep Maria Montaner, Francesco Santoro, Sebastiano d'Urso, Marcos Cruz and Bob Sheil.

In addition, three complementary activities are programmed: the debate Architecture and mental health in charge of the MIAS and the Comunitat Terapèutica del Maresme (25 November at 6 p.m. in the Sala C of the Disseny HUB); the conference MIAS at DHUB, led by Josep Miàs (2 December at 6 p.m. at the Col·legi d'Arquitectes); and the debate Innovation and architecture with the assistance of the four companies producing the exhibition (14 December from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Escola Sert).
