“Locus Naked”, in the Arts Santa Mònica

This two-fold, multidisciplinary exhibition reveals the artistic kinship existing between New York and Rome and can be seen from the 23rd of December to the 5th of January

New York: cosmopolitan city par excellence, a city which appears to reach towards the future through its skyscrapers. Rome: the eternal city, replete with ruins which seem speak to us through the earth itself. Twenty years ago these supposed contrasts between the two cities gave birth to a dialog between two artists who have spent many years in both places, Madrid-born Marga Clark and Barcelona-born Valentí Gómez Oliver.

With the exhibition entitled Locus Naked in the Espai Balcó of the Arts Santa Mònica, the two creators have attempted to establish a focus for union and contact between the two cities which, in their opinion, represent two apparently contrasting worlds which are nevertheless utterly familiar. With this objective in mind they have recreated the two cities by instigating a dialog using multidisciplinary techniques such as images, drawings, artist’s books, archetypes and texts in Spanish and Catalan with their respective translations in English and Italian.

The exhibition emphasises not only the linguistic and visual harmony which is evident between the two cities but also a recreation of the universal space represented by these two metropolises and their common intellectual spirit. The photographs of Marga Clark coupled with the drawings of Gómez Oliver and the remainder of the materials which the artists have collected over the years, combine the language of the two cities to speak of a past which serves to illuminate our current perspective on the future.
