"Los últimos días" (The Last Days) brings the apocalypse to Barcelona

The film by the Pastor brothers opens in cinemas on the 27th of March

Thanks to North American super-productions we have grown accustomed to continuing visions of cities such as New York or Los Angeles devastated by a wide variety of tragedies or other phenomena. On this occasion, brothers Àlex and David Pastor transfer the apocalyptic landscapes to Barcelona with Los últimos días (The Last Days), one of the year’s most eagerly awaited films. Following their American experience with their first production, the grim Infectats (Carriers) (which portrayed a world devastated by a lethal virus), the Barcelona-born film makers continue with the apocalyptic genre.

A mysterious illness has extended throughout the planet and the human race suddenly develops an irrational phobia of the outdoors. Anyone who dares to step outside meets with instantaneous death, causing the entire population to either remain in their houses or fight for survival in the underbellies of the world’s cities. In Barcelona, a young man sets out on the seemingly impossible mission of finding his missing girlfriend.

While it contains doses of action, adventure and suspense, the film is an eminently human story that never fails to astonish with the visual impact of its imagery, an abandoned Barcelona that has succumbed to panic. The principle roles are played by Quim Gutiérrez, Jose Coronado, Marta Etura and Leticia Dolera.
