“Lungs” is back, this time in the Teatre Lliure, Montjuïc

Following last year’s success the play by Duncan MacMillan can once again be seen up until the 18th of January

Last January the Barcelona theatre company Sixto Paz presented Pulmons (Lungs) in the Sala Beckett, a staging based on the text of the English playwright, Duncan MacMillan. Following on from this successful venture, the play now returns to the Barcelona stage from the 7th to the 18th of January, only this time in the Espai Lliure, the smaller theatre of the Montjuïc seat of the Teatre Lliure.

Directed by Marilia Samper, Lungs speaks candidly of the doubts that face a couple when they consider the possibility of having a child. The uncertainty of the present, with all the attendant global economic and climactic problems, acts as a backdrop for the dilemma that supposes the bringing of a child into the world. Pau Roca and Carlota Olcina take on the only roles in a play that, while it may appear to be a contradiction, is a tragicomedy of global import.

MacMillan, the author, reflects on the questions that arise throughout the play: “Am I a good person? Will I be a good father? What kind of a world will our children inherit? Is it intelligent, or even necessary, to bring another person into this world? The more intelligent we become, the harder it gets to answer these questions and the more ridiculous we appear in our attempts to do so”.
