The main lines of municipal action in the area of culture have been presented

The City will give priority to working on strengthening ties between culture and citizenship, on participatory processes and on transparency.

Our base culture will be fostered and measures will be promoted to create ties between education and culture, among other imminent actions.

Berta Sureda, the Commissioner for Culture for the City Council of Barcelona, today revealed the main lines of municipal government action in the field of culture.

Under a new understanding of culture which shall be created and lived out by our citizens, proximity will be one of the main cultural themes in the city.

With this new interpretation of culture, which is much more directly connected to our citizens, the ICUB will reinforce its role as a cultural facilitator in order to boost collective and shared creativity in the city and foster the development of our base culture. To this end, establishing a long-term connection between education and culture will also be one of the top priorities of the municipal government.

Work will also be done at the Institute of Culture to encourage dialogue with the cultural sectors in Barcelona all while committed to participatory processes as work methods.

This participatory policy will be implemented through two platforms: the Culture Council of Barcelona which will be more transversal, and the 2016-2026 Cultural Plan which will make it possible to establish cultural policies to be carried out in the medium- and long-term.

The use of a code of ethics and best practices in cultural management will be promoted and work will be done to prevent job insecurity.  Intensive coordination work will be encouraged between the various cultural role-players in order to improve the permeability of spaces and programmes as well as permeability between society and culture.
