“Maldà 1700”, second edition

The Círcol Maldà once again presents the festival of ancient and baroque music, this time with the option of taking a tour of end-of-the-18th-century Barcelona before the concert

For the second year running the Círcol Maldà will open the doors of the former residence of the first Baron of Maldà, Rafael d’Amat i de Cortada, to the general public. The house is located in the very heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter and it was here that the author of the 60 volumes of Calaix de sastre (The tailor’s drawer) habitually hosted musical soirées accompanied by chocolate tastings.

The second edition of the Maldà 1700 festival will once again champion ancient music, in particular baroque, with a programme that will continue up until the last weekend in March, offering chamber concerts accompanied with hot chocolate and featuring top local and international specialists in European musical productions from the 18th century.

On the Sundays of the 15th and 22nd of March, and thanks to the collaboration of the music dissemination association Musicològics, this year’s festival also offers the possibility of taking a guided tour of the Baron of Maldà’s Barcelona an hour before the concert, taking in some of the venues frequented by the baron as both a music lover and amateur musician.

On Sunday the 15th the tour will precede a concert offered by the Emilio Moreno Ensemble, who will interpret pieces by Boccherini, while on the 22nd, Javier Artigas and Josep Borràs, two students and performers of baroque music, will interpret a concert entitled Baixó i clave a l’entorn de la Barcelona del segle XVIII (Dulcian and organ in 18th-century Barcelona).
