The Mas i Mas festival starts its engines

Tickets for the Mas i Mas festival concerts that have already been advertised are on sale at reduced prices on the website up until the 19th of May. With the aim of attracting music lovers to Barcelona during the month of August, the festival has prepared a lineup that should achieve precisely that. Not all the participating artists have been announced, but the preliminary list looks very promising indeed.
 

The inauguration on the 26th of June will be the responsibility of two female voices that are making waves in the R&B and Afro-Soul genres: the French singer Imany and Barcelona-born Sara Pi. Two of the key names in unconventional jazz will be visiting the Sala Apolo on two dates that jazz lovers simply must not miss. On the one hand, there is Hermeto Pascoal, the legendary Brazilian musician who hasn’t visited Barcelona in more than 15 years and who will be offering a retrospective concert on the 29th of July. And on the other hand, the Sun Ra Arkestra (21st of August), the landmark cosmic and free jazz combo, who will be headed by Marshall Allen, one of the founder members.
 

Lou Donaldson, Niño Josele & Juan Díaz + Pau Lligadas are among the other names that have been confirmed for the festival. The closing concert, Concert Onze de Setembre, will be performed by the Orquesta Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya and the Orfeó Català, directed by Xavier Puig and with the participation of pianist Albert Guinovart.
