“Masters of the guitar”, in the Basilica Santa Maria del Pi

The series of concerts will feature artists such as Pedro Javier González, Xavier Coll, Manuel González and Ekaterina Záytseva

From August to October, the Basilica Santa Maria del Pi will be hosting a series of concerts entitled Masters of the guitar which will feature performances by local and international artists the likes of Pedro Javier González, Xavier Coll, Manuel González and Ekaterina Záytseva.

One of the more characteristic elements of renowned Barcelona-born guitarist Pedro Javier González is his fusion of traditional and modern music. In his six-year career, Gonzalez has worked with artists the likes of Manolo García and Joan Manuel Serrat. Also Barcelona born, Xavier Coll encompasses a variety of musical genres. A guitar teacher, he has performed in France, Italy, Switzerland, Russia, USA and Egypt, among other countries.

Yet another Barcelona-born guitar player, Manuel González has been acclaimed by music and culture critics as one of the most important current international masters of the guitar. He already has an extensive career behind him since graduating from New York’s Manhattan School of Music and, among other accolades, received the Generalitat de Catalunya Award for his artistic contribution. The young, Swiss-born, Russian guitarist resident in Barcelona, Ekaterina Záytseva, has also been acclaimed as one of the greatest talents of her generation. She has taken part in the most prestigious international guitar festivals and has won awards in numerous competitions.

In addition to solo performances, many of the invited artists will also offer group concerts. Xavier Coll and Manuel González will be joined by Luis Robisco to make up the Barcelona Guitar Trio, while Coll and Gonzalez will join with Ekaterina Záytseva and Belisana Ruiz in Barcelona 4Guitars.
