“Menú Degustación” (Tasting Menu), a gastronomic comedy by Roger Gual, arrives at cinemas

Consultancy for the film was provided by Ferran Adrià and the restaurant El Celler de Can Roca

The prestige of Catalan haute cuisine arrives at our cinemas on the 14th of June with Menú Degustació (Tasting Menu), a light romantic comedy directed by Barcelona-born Roger Gual, previously known for Smoking Room and Remake.

The film maker focuses his latest project on the world of haute cuisine from a comic, sentimental perspective, with a tale of several characters from different countries who converge one night in the world’s finest restaurant located on an idyllic cove of the Costa Brava.

One year beforehand, Marc and Raquel (portrayed by Jan Cornet and Clàudia Bassols) reserve a table in the restaurant. The reservation becomes even more significant when it is announced that the restaurant will be closing for good on the very same night. When the day arrives, however, Marc and Raquel are no longer together as a couple. Nonetheless, neither of them are willing to give up the reservation and, in the restaurant on the Catalan coastline, they find themselves in the company of gourmets from the world over, sharing the most exquisite gastronomic and sensory experiences of their lives.

Menú Degustació is a co-production between Catalonia and Ireland and was filmed principally in L’Escala. Consultancy was provided by both Ferran Adrià who, like the chef in the film, decided to close his restaurant while it was at its peak, and the management of El Celler de Can Roca, recently voted the World’s Best Restaurant. As an anecdote, the many dishes that appear in the film are taken directly from this restaurant’s menu.

Aside from the two protagonists, Vincenta N’Dongo, Marta Torné and Santi Millán also appear in the film alongside international actors such as Fionnula Flanagan and Stephen Rea.
