The Mississippi Gospel Choir, in the Palau de la Música

A cocktail of luminance and spirituality for the 4th of January

The Mississippi Gospel Choir consists of around twenty singers with one sole purpose: to capture the history of gospel in a performance designed as a unique tour of the roots of this musical genre. The performance consists of a feast of celebrated songs intended to spread a message of worldwide peace and solidarity.

Those attending the Palau de la Música on the 4th of January will be treated to a performance that is becoming a tradition around Christmastime. The songs in Hallelujah! range from deeply religious spiritual songs from the 19th century to 20th century protest and marching songs in defence of civil liberties. This is the seventh occasion in which this troupe of superlative African-American voices have graced our stages with an renewed proposal that will once again have the audience dancing with their habitual cocktail of luminance and spirituality.

The Mississippi Gospel Choir is directed by Minister Jeffrey Allen Murdock Jr., who has led numerous choral groups, including The Voices of Triumph and The Cast Wide Martin Luther King Jr. In addition to his role as choir director, Jeffrey Murdock has had a notable career as a singer and has participated in a multitude of musicals and operas.
