“Modernist Trades” in the Museu del Modernisme Català
From the 26th of February to the 14th of May, in the second edition of the series, the museum will host conferences and workshops relating to techniques such as forging and graffito
On the 26th of February the Museu del Modernisme Català will kick off the second edition of its series entitled Modernist Trades with a selection of conferences and workshops relating to some of the trades characteristic of the Modernist period, such as cloisonné, forging, graffito, applied ceramics and joinery.
Cloisonné and forging are both metalwork techniques, the former being used more for decorative purposes while the latter is used for the shaping of heated metals. Graffito, on the other hand, uses drawing and scratching techniques to decorate successive layers of walls as well as other surfaces and objects. The objective of these conferences is to acquaint visitors with the more popular techniques as applied to ceramics, or wood, in the case of joinery, and to raise awareness of the significance of these professions in the Modernist era.
The conferences will be held up until the 14th of May and will be presented by experts in the corresponding materials, among them doctors in art history such as Núria Gil, Lluïsa Amenós and Daniel Pifarré, and will include visits to modern workshops in the city where these techniques are combined with other timeworn techniques using the most up-to-date technology and following the latest tendencies.
