The most sustainable buildings in the city

Follow the route promoted by Visit Barcelona and you will discover the neighbourhood that is most committed to the environment.

The 22@ Barcelona district is an innovative transformation project that aims to turn the Poblenou neighbourhood into a space of urban sustainability. Following the Sustainable Buildings Trail proposed by Visit Barcelona you can discover the most environmentally friendly buildings and the secrets of the 22@ technology district, one of the most ambitious projects in Europe.

One of the first stops on the itinerary is the Media TIC sustainable building, as it is one of the most representative and characteristic. Designed by the architect Enrique Ruiz Geli, it has four walls covered with pillows that make it stand out from the rest. During its construction, a material called EFTE was chosen, which acts as a solar filter and generates energy savings in terms of air conditioning consumption. In addition, its structure absorbs sunlight during the day and gives it off at night and, thanks to its design, extracts luminous elements reminiscent of the complexion of a jellyfish.

After that, you can visit the Barcelona Design Museum - Design Hub Barcelona, located in Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes. The space promotes design and the creative industries and conserves more than 70,000 objects from the collections of various museums in the city integrated into the space. The building has a high degree of environmental quality and sustainability, as thanks to an energy sufficiency system it has a 70% reduction in energy consumption, making it one of the most efficient buildings in Barcelona.

Platinum@BCN has three office buildings that follow a high standard of sustainability and efficiency. By being built with recycled materials, having an energy saving of 44% and a high reduction of water use thanks to its low consumption sanitary facilities, the building joins the podium of one of the most environmentally committed buildings.

The other spaces on the tour are: Ca l'Alier, the Leitat Technology Centre, the Glòries Shopping Axis, the Blood and Tissue Bank, the International Business Centre of Catalonia and the RBA Editors Group Building, all of which were built following efficiency and environmentally responsible criteria. Take the opportunity to follow this route that combines tourism and sustainability and discover the city's most cutting-edge urban innovation plan.
