The Museu de Disseny de Barcelona opens its Documentation Centre
The Disseny Hub Barcelona building now boasts a new 916 m2 space with a collection of more than 22,000 documents relating to the world of design
From Tuesday the 29th of April, the 1st basement floor of the Disseny Hub Barcelona building will house the new Museu de Disseny Documentation Centre, four times the size of the area occupied in carrer Montada since 2011.
Dedicated to research and information pertaining to objects and design, the Documentation Centre aims to become a city reference centre by making the entire museum collection available to the general public. The Centre, the first public service area opened by the Museu de Disseny de Barcelona, will open 30 hours a week from Tuesday to Friday and will facilitate the lending of books and magazines.
The Centre’s 22,000 documents, which include a contemporary collection, a reserve collection and some digital content, will be available to users in four main areas: a reading room with 40 desks, 628 linear metres of specialised bibliographical information, an area designed for the consultation of sector magazines, and a reading room with 16 work areas designed for the consultation of archive and special collections.
In addition, the museum plans to initiate a series of exhibitions in December this year and develop a programme relating to the principal events associated with the world of design, including professional open days, guided visits and presentations of new publications.
