The Virgin of Montserrat in a stained glass at the Museum of Modernism’s exhibition

Stained glass windows in the Museum of Modernism

The museum reopens by presenting the new exhibition dedicated to the stained glass windows gathered by the Pinós Guirao family.

The Museum of Modernism of Barcelona celebrates their reopening with a new exhibition full of nature and colours that can be visited until March 14, 2021. It is called ‘Praise to colour: the splendour of stained glass in Modernism’ and it is made up of about fifty modernist stained glass windows that share natural and religious motifs, which light transforms into shapes and colours. The pieces have been collected by the Pinós Guirao family for the last 40 years and now become part of the museum, in a journey that goes from the mid-nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century.

The motifs that appear in these stained glass windows are usually of nature, such as flowers, plants and animals, but important religious figures are also present. You will be able to see characters such as Sant Agustí, Sant Ferran, Sant Cosme and Sant Damià, Sant Jordi and the Virgin of Montserrat. The exhibition highlights the most important stained glass workshops in Barcelona at the time, such as Camaló, Antoni Rigalt & Cia. or Frederic Vidal.

The price of the general ticket is 12 euros. You can visit the exhibition from Monday to Saturday by appointment, by sending an email to mmbcn@mmbcn.cat or by calling 932 722 896.
