Musical soirées in the gardens of the Teatre Grec

A series of twelve free small-format concerts have been programmed as preludes to the theatre performances

As forecast by the festival director, Ramon Simó, the 38th edition of the event would be full of surprises, a perfect example being the series of free-of-charge, small-format concerts that has been programmed for the gardens of the Teatre Grec and which will feature artists representative of Barcelona and Catalonia’s ebullient contemporary music scene.

The artists have been selected by music journalist Albert Puig Cros with the aim of providing a suitable backdrop to the particular theatre performances taking place in the Montjuïc venue the same evening. The series begins with Quart Primera (Pere Jou) on the 2nd of July and finishes up with Èric Vinaixa on the 30th.

Other performers featured during the series of concerts will include Barcelona-resident Belgian singer-songwriter A Singer of Songs, the Brazilian-inspired party music of Wagner Pa, Ramon Mirabet, Nico Roig, Caïm Riba, Maria Rodés, who will present her latest offering, Maria canta coplas (Maria sings ‘coplas’), folk duet Cálido Home, Lerida-based Renaldo & Clara, German singer Julianne Heinemann, also resident in Barcelona, and Guillem Roma. The performances will take place in the gardens designed by Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier for the World Trade Fair, or Expo Barcelona, in 1929.

The performances will begin at 8 pm and entry is free, though seating is limited.
