The Centre Cívic de Sarrià has organised a tour of the Gothic Quarter during which the dark side of the city’s history will be revealed
The Centre Cívic de Sarrià, located in the Vil·la Cecília building, has organised a tour of the centre of Barcelona on Wednesday, the 23th of October, with medieval witchcraft as the central theme. Using a tour of Barcelona’s medieval streets as a backdrop, Teresa Serraclara will explain how witchcraft was openly tolerated in former times and how everything changed with the arrival of the Counter-Reformation and the subsequent prohibitions.
Mystery night: witches, alchemists and inquisitors will begin on the steps of the Cathedral by revealing the relationships between witchcraft, the inquisition and the more well-known figures of the time as well as the specific places where the alchemists and wizards prepared their potions.
The programme of events organised by the civic centre up until the month of December includes another tour entitled La Barcelona dels gremis (Barcelona and the guilds) on the previous day (23/10) and a third tour on the 20th of November titled L'ordre dels caballers templers de Barcelona (The Barcelona Order of Knights Templar). With this Mystery night, then, it would appear that the civic centre has organised a trilogy of tours providing an insight into the medieval city with attendant its professions, customs and peculiarities.
