A ‘Neuro-unconference’ in the Centro Cívico de Sant Agustí, on the 20th of March

The choice of subject for the conference which will be held on Wednesday the 20th of March in the Centro Cívico de Sant Agustí from 5pm to 8pm, is yours, whether it be the brain of the future, ethical dilemmas, drugs, neurological treatments, cerebral gene therapy or ‘omic’ brain maps. These six subjects are now open for voting in the Centre for Genomic Regulation website and will provide the subject for discussion among the invited scientists. The users may also contribute their own ideas and questions via the website.

 

This is just one of the many acts that may be attended between the 11th and the 20th of March within the framework of the third edition of Brain Awareness Week, which is celebrated simultaneously in more than 80 countries.

What is love, from a neurological perspective? How can two languages coexist in one brain? What is Alexia? These are all questions to be dealt with in the programme. In addition, throughout the week of the 11th to the 17th of March, the Biblioteca Sagrada Familia will be funding an exhibition relating to the brain and offering a guide to resources that will be available in a variety of media.

 

This initiative, which stems from an idea of the researchers themselves, is an attempt to acquaint people with the latest discoveries in human brain studies. The principle organisers are the Centre for Genome Regulation (the programme coordinator is Mara Dierssen, a researcher in the centre), the ICUB (the Barcelona Culture Institute) and IBIDAPS (the August Pi and Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute) and collaboration in the programme has also been provided by a number of universities and scientific societies which will also be hosting some of the activities.
