A new performance by La Shica in the BARTS

“Espain, dolor del bueno”, written and directed by Andreu Buenafuente, will be showing from the 10th to the 12th of October

Espain, dolor del bueno (S(pain), it hurts so good), is the new La Shica performance to be presented by Casa Terrat. The initiative by El Terrat is an unequivocal attempt by the production company to return to the theatre and live shows in general after a sojourn in radio and television. The script and direction are both the combined efforts of Andreu Buenafuente and the singer herself and the performance can be seen on the 10th, 11th and 12th of October in the BARTS.

The production descends into our musical past for the purposes of revisiting it, honouring it and bringing it into the 21st century in an exercise of decontextualisation of some of the popular topics of Spanish culture, but also of music and other arts. The performance consists of a festive journey into past decades only to return to the present to explore what remains of that particular heritage in an atmosphere lacking in prejudices and instilled phobias.

La Shica is the artistic alias of Elsa Rovayo, who was born in Ceuta but moved to Madrid as a young girl. She has released two records, the second of which won the Premios de la Música (National Music Awards). From the very beginning she has opted for a transversal musical style with a foot and a half in the flamenco and ‘copla’ genres but with the addition of many elements from other genres such as hip-hop or contemporary pop-rock.
