'ON FIRE!! 25 years of LGBTI films and references'

The role of LGBTI cinema in society

The exhibition 'ON FIRE!! 25 years of LGBTI films and references' at the Centre LGTBI de Barcelona is on until October 1.

Cinema reflects, like a mirror, different stories where we search for models with whom to emphasise, and through whom to recognise ourselves and build our identity. Nevertheless, sometimes, we find that the models the big screen offers haven't normalised affective-sexual diversity and, therefore, only represent a small spectrum of the range of identities that make us such a diverse society. To address this gap, in October 1995, the Casal Lambda's International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival of Barcelona, FIRE!!!, a pioneering event in Spain, was created. Now, the Casal Lambada is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the festival with the exhibition ON FIRE!! 25 years of LGBTI films and references, which you can visit at the LGTBI Centre in Barcelona until October 1.

This exhibition is a retrospective of the 25 editions of the festival, one of the most important cultural events in the city. The exhibition focuses on the essence of FIRE!! and the cinematographic references it provides. It is structured around a short journey, whose goal is to make us reflect on the role that cultural events of these characteristics have played in recent years, as well as the role that LGBTI cinema plays today in relation to the contribution of models of the collective.

You can check out the exhibition for free from Monday to Friday. For more information, check the Barcelona’s LGTBI Centre website.
