Fàbrica Lehmann

Lehmann factory opens its doors to all for one day only

For one Saturday, visitors will be able to tour the creative spaces, participate in workshops, buy artisan goods and much more.

Fàbrica Lehmann is an old factory right in the heart of the Eixample, with a series of spaces that are home to small businesses and groups that use creativity to produce innovative results. Normally, it is a workplace. But twice a year the space throws open its doors so visitors can see what goes on inside. One of these is 48h Open House Barcelona and the other is this May, when they host an open-doors day with activities for visitors young and old. The twenty-odd creative spaces that co-exist there will share the inside of their spaces, in addition to hosting displays of artisan goods, book stalls and activities and workshops. There will also be music and street food. Some examples include a ceramics workshop and paper embroidery course, plus art and photo exhibitions, and music by Los Pacientes de Jerez.

The open-doors day this year will be Saturday 25 May from 11 am to 8 pm, featuring twenty-odd spaces at Fàbrica Lehmann, including art, interior design, architecture and jewellery studios, and much more. The space dates back to 1893, when Ernst Paul Lehmann, one of the most important toy-makers in the world, set up one of his factories in Barcelona. During the Spanish Civil War, it was used to make dishes and flatware for the Republican army and, after the conflict, was gradually occupied by small businesses from the neighbourhood.

Visiting the site is free but there is a materials fee for some of the workshop. More information is available on the event Facebook site.
