Renée Fleming in ‘Capriccio’

Opera at the cinema

Strauss’s 'Capriccio' and Mozart’s 'Don Giovanni' are closing the Matins d'Òpera program at Verdi Cinemas.

To watch the best operas from the comfort of your cinema chair – that’s what Verdi Cinemas offers with Matins d'Òpera, bringing the world’s best productions from the most prestigious stage to the city’s theatres. If you missed the previous sessions, you are still on time… On June 20 and 23 June, enjoy Capriccio, the last of the operas written by Richard Strauss, coming from the Vienna State Opera, and starring Renée Fleming and Bo Skovhus, who play the countess and her brother. Capriccio is, as Strauss explained, an intimate work for "cultural sybarites," a piece that talks about opera itself and examines its formalities.

On the other hand, the last session of the season, on 27 and 30 June, is for Don Giovanni, another essential opera written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In this case, production comes from the Salzburg Festival with Ildebrando de Arcangelo, Lenneke Ruiten and Anett Fritsch as headliners, playing Don Giovanni, Donna Anna, and Donna Elvira, respectively. Don Giovanni is one of Mozart's masterpieces. It is part of the so-called Da Ponte trilogy, made up by Don Giovanni itself, The Marriage of Figaro and Così Fan Tutte, three works composed by Mozart with a libretto written by Lorenzo Da Ponte.

Tickets for the sessions are 7 euros and are on sale through the Verdi Cinemas’ website. Screenings start at 11.30 am and will be in the original version with Spanish subtitles.
