A fragment from ‘Call Me by Your Name’

Outdoor films that break down barriers

Bohemian Rapsody, Carmen & Lola and Call Me by Your Name are some of the films included in the cycle.

Every Thursday in July and the first one in August, you’ve got the chance to enjoy outdoor cinema at the L'Illa Diagonal shopping centre. The films they’ve got lined up share the fact that they tell stories that break down barriers; the cycle kicked off with Javier Fresser’s hit film, Champions, on 4 July and it will finish up with the biopic on Freddie Mercury, Bohemian Rhapsody, on the first of the coming month. All the sessions will start at 10 pm but you’ll be able to access the area one hour beforehand. The tickets will cost €3.50 and they can be purchased in advance or at the ticket offices on the same day. If you like, you can rent a deck chair to be even more comfortable while watching the films. What’s more, during the film you can have dinner or a drink, which makes it the perfect idea for a summer night!

There are three other films in the cycle. On 11 July, Lucas Guadagnino’s Call Me by Your Name will be screened, which is a romantic drama based on the novel of the same name by André Aciman and which some critics in the industry claimed to be the best film of 2017. The following week, it will be followed up by Arancha Echevarria’s Carmen & Lola¸ a film that premiered last year and tells the story of a teenage gypsy living on the outskirts of Madrid who meets another gypsy whose dream is to attend university. On 25 July, it will be the turn of Theodore Melfi’s Hidden Figures, which is about three black women who are scientists and who worked at NASA at the beginning of the 1960s.

The films will be shown in their original language and subtitled in Spanish (including the Spanish-language films). For more information, please check this link.
