Paint strokes and musical notes around Charles Le Brun

CaixaForum Barcelona dedicates its new musical season to the great master of French painting, whose exhibition "Dibuixar Versalles"can be seen from November 18 to February 14

The new exhibition presented by "la Caixa" Foundation presents a selection of about one hundred pieces of French painterCharles Le Brun, first painter of King Louis XIV for thirty years.

Dibuixar Versalles. Charles Le Brun (1619-1690) shows 30 cartons that the artist made as preparatory drawings for the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles, certainly his great work, as well as sketches of the missing Ambassadors ladder. These large works have undergone a complete restoration, and some of them are on public display for the first time since the seventeenth century.

The didactic wealth of the sample allows us to explore in detail the method of work of Le Brun, and getting to know the decoration of the Staircase of the Ambassadors of Versailles, destroyed in 1752, and delve into the different techniques for painting murals, and the restoration process.
As part of the inauguration of the exhibition on Charles Le Brun, "la Caixa" is preparing a series of concerts called
La música francesa de l'època de Le Brun (segle XVII), with music of the time of this great master of the seventeenth-century French painting. The concerts, which will take place in the CaixaForum Auditorium for four Sundays in November and December, include representative works of great composers of that time in Versailles, such as Lully and Couperin, and will be headlined instruments of the period, such as harpsichord, lute, and the chamber music with viola da gamba.
