‘Picasso. The sketchbooks’ will inaugurate on December 18

Picasso's sketchbooks on display

The Picasso Museum inaugurates ‘Picasso. The sketchbooks’ on December 18.

For Picasso, his sketchbooks were very useful for research and experimentation. They were so important to him that he kept them forever and never let them go. Throughout his career, he filled one hundred and seventy-five of them, nineteen of which now belong to the collection of the Picasso Museum. These will be the ones you can see in the exhibition ‘Picasso. The sketchbooks’ that the museum will inaugurate on December 18, which mostly belong to the artist’s childhood and youth. You can see them in the museum until April 4, 2021.

Malén Gual is the curator of this exhibition, which she believes is essential for these drawings to see the light of day: they contribute to the understanding of Picasso’s work and help to expand research into his most recurring techniques, procedures and themes. In the exhibition, you will be able to see all the drawings thanks to the technologies applied by the museum, as well as a series of works that help to contextualise them. An exhibition that highlights the need to document these materials.

The opening of the exhibition coincides with the 50th anniversary of Picasso’s donation of his own art pieces to the museum. For this reason, on December 18, 19 and 20, the museum will hold open days so that you can enjoy this symbolic moment for the centre and also for the city. You can book tickets for these days here.

Admission to the museum is 12 euros, which includes a visit to the centre and the temporary exhibition, but you can enter for free on Thursdays from 4 pm and on the first Sunday of the month. You can check timetables and prices in the practical information section.
