Poetry writing and recitation in the Centre Cívic Pati Llimona

Between the 2nd and 19th of July, a workshop relating to the Spoken Word technique will explore the possibilities of both the voice and oral poetry

Within the framework of the ‘Llimonades’ activities, part of the Pati Llimona summer festival, the civic centre has programmed activities relating to a number of different disciplines and areas of interest. One of these is titled Escriure i recitar poesia / Spoken word, organised by Víctor López, which will take place between the 2nd and 19th of July.

The series is broken down into two-hour sessions, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, and is based on the North American discipline of Spoken Word, a technique for poetry recital handed down from the Beat Generation but whose roots are based in ancient oral traditions.

The technique consists of the reader embodying the poem, performing it, projecting the words onto the audience with intention. For this reason, putting the technique into practice requires the fusion of a number of elements and recitation may include other art forms such as singing, jazz, hip hop, dance, performance or even electronics.

While theoretical aspects will be dealt with during the six workshop sessions, the emphasis will be placed on practise and the sessions will include the history of spoken word, the assimilation of stage, voice and breathing techniques and the practise of poetry exercises relating to the oral tradition.
