Sala Hiroshima, Hangar, Institut del Teatre and Arts Santa Mònica will host a wide range of shows from 9 to 19 November.
IF Barcelona - the acronym comes from the words imagination and forms - is a platform that was created with the aim of bringing puppet theatre, visual theatre and the theatre of objects to the cultural mainstream. The people behind the project understand puppet theatre as a broad scenic form, ranging from the most traditional forms of shadow theatre to the most advanced, avant-garde proposals. The project came to light in 2015, and a biennial structure has since then seen theatrical productions alternating with exhibitions.
So, after two years it’s now time to present the public with a number of performances featuring puppets in the broadest sense as protagonists, including productions by the artists and companies that have participated in working residences at the Arts Santa Mònica Centre, co-produced with IF Barcelona. There are five projects that were exhibited during the work in process phase during the last edition of the festival and that this year the public will be able to see in a finished state.
The 2017 IF Barcelona Festival will take place from 9 to 19 November, with Arts Santa Mònica and the Institut del Teatre as its major venues, but with activities and shows at the Hangar creation factory, at Sala Hiroshima Hall at various locations in Santa Coloma de Gramenet. The organizers explain that this year’s edition has a common thread, "the relationship between the symbolic object and matter and the limit of perception through the creation of the senses and realities that go beyond that which is apparent". The official opening of the festival will take place on Thursday 9 at 8.00 p.m. with Si se dio un cuerpo a la brisa by Constanza Brinzic and Nuno Rebelo, and Lumimic by the Besllum Art Visual company and composer Octavi Rumbau.
