Poetry Slam: poetry as competition

This monthly event by CCCB brings together poets who battle it out to show who the best is.

For a few years now, the CCCB contemporary culture centre has programmed a monthly activity that’s based on the idea that competition is a good way to promote poetry. The Poetry Slam format, which is inspired by US style hip-hop battles, is actually a fun, interactive way to experience poetry as a social event, rather than something for purely private consumption. Throughout the evening, anyone who wants to grab the microphone can get up to recite their inventions, while the audience, either by clapping and cheering or by voting by means of a whiteboard, will score their attempts.

The next two sessions of Poetry Slam 2018 will be on 24 March and 21 April, so come and discover some urban poets or take up the microphone yourself to slam with the slammers.
