“[REC]⁴: Apocalypse” opens in cinemas

[REC]⁴: Apocalypse opens in Barcelona cinemas on Friday the 31st of October just weeks after having inaugurated the most recent Sitges Film Festival. Directed by Jaume Balagueró and co-written in collaboration with Manu Díaz, the action begins the moment reporter Ángela Vidal is evacuated from the building where the first two films in the saga took place and transported to an oil tanker where she is to be quarantined.

Inside the tanker, in the middle of the ocean, the reporter shares living space with other characters from the saga, such as Guzmán, the army doctor who evacuated her from the building, Edwin, the vessel’s Philippine chef, and a frantic elderly woman who believes she is still at the wedding party in which [REC]3: Genesis took place.

The film puts the final touch to the saga that began in 2008 with [REC], filmed in number 34 of La Rambla de Catalunya, a building in which the residents begin to become infected by a mysterious virus. Seven years on, [REC]⁴: Apocalypse abandons the false documentary, subjective camera style but maintains the claustrophobic ambience thanks to the camera work of Pablo Rosso. The film stars Manuela Velasco in a cast that includes Paco Manzanedo, Héctor Colomé and Críspulo Cabezas, among others.

[REC]⁴: Apocalypse, the final film in the saga, opens in cinemas on Friday the 31st of October.
