“Reinventing Barcelona”, in the Sala Ciutat

The exhibition, which can be seen up until the 10th of January, reveals the role of citizen participation in the evolution of the city

In recent years Barcelona has experienced, and continues to experience, constant and significant changes every day, every hour and every moment. Many of these changes favour the social evolution of the city and are the result of popular ideas and initiatives by entities, associations and other organisation whose efforts are focussed on the common good.

With this in mind the Barcelona City Council has organised an exhibition in the Sala Ciutat under the title Reinventant Barcelona. La ciutat que construeixen les persones (Reinventing Barcelona. The city made by the people) in an effort to pay tribute to these initiatives. The exhibition may be seen up until the 10th of January.

Among more than sixty projects on display, all of which have contributed to increasing citizen participation, there are community gardens, language classes, cultural heritage tours, spaces dedicated to the arts and even the Shopping Night on the Passeig de Gracia. The aim of this representative exhibition is to increase visibility of the efforts being made by the various collectives in all districts of the city.

Highlights of the exhibition include the welcome video by Belarus artist Aleksandr Krastov based on 24.000 photographs, and a hall crowned with a tree of desires where visitors may express their wishes for the future of Barcelona.
