Cinema with spirit
Some twenty films will be screened from 15 to 30 November in a series that aims to be a showcase for religious diversity and coexistence.
In the second half of November, a dozen town halls, and as many as thirty in the country as a whole, will screen twenty films and a short film as part of the 14th Spiritual Film Festival. The event aims to make the big screen a reflection of religious diversity, coexistence and interreligious dialogue, and the sessions have a film forum format, with the participation of specialists in the seventh art, university professors, journalists and members of religious confessions, who will offer a presentation of the film and lead the debate among the attendees once it has finished.
If you’re willing to move around Barcelona, you can follow these screenings at the Filmoteca de Catalunya, Verdi Park, in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Communication Blanquerna, at the Urgell Civic Centre, the Centre for Christianity and Justice Studies, the Moral and Instructional Centre of Gràcia, the Parish Centre of Sant Vicenç de Sarrià, the Centre Passatge (Auditorium of the Joan Maragall Foundation), Lluïsos d'Horta Cinema and the Casp Jesuit School. Highlights of the program include a cycle dedicated to Terrence Malick at Filmoteca which will include Badlands (1973), Days of Heaven (1978) and Song to Song (2017). Cinemagoers can also catch a sample of films directed by Martin Scorsese (Silence, 2016) and by Mel Gibson (Until the Last Man, 2016). The programmers will also include some classics, such as Diálogo de carmelitas (1960), and for films that deal with current issues, with the documentary Human Tide: a vision of the global refugee crisis by Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei.
