Remembering Frederick S. Pearson at the Biblioteca Pública Arús

The figure of this electrical engineer and industrial enterprising, vital to the Catalan society, is recovered on the centenary of his death with an exhibition that can be seen from December 14 to January 15

The contributions of Frederick Stark Pearson Catalan tot the catalan society of his time brought major advances, in such important matters as the electrification of the country.

The Biblioteca Pública Arús, located in the Passeig de Sant Joan 26, commemorates the centennial of the death of this electrical engineer and entrepreneur from Massachusetts with the exhibition El llegat de Frederik S. Pearson en el seu centenari (1861-1915), which may visited from December 14 to January 15 in the library hours.

Pearson boosted competitiveness, industrialization and economy, achieving a very favorable impact on quality of life as well as labor and political relationships of the moment, and even had influence in the field of literature. His work as an entrepreneur established in Anglo-Saxon financial areas granted the vision to start an electrical infrastructure in Catalonia, which were crucial to boost prosperity and economic and social development. At that time, the American entrepreneur collaborated with engineers such as Emili Montañès, and created in the  Barcelona Riegos y Fuerzas del Ebro (Barcelona Ebro Irrigation and Power), besides Energía Eléctrica de Cataluña (Electricity of Catalonia) and Catalana de Gas y Electricidad (Catalan Gas and Electricity), extending the use of electricity and building new plants.

However, Frederick S. Pearson could only see finished one of its electrical infrastructure, before he died in the sinking of the Lusitania ship, that was torpedoed in 1915 by a German submarine during World War I. Right now is the 100th anniversary of that tragic loss.
