A documentary review of the life of Puig i Cadafalch

This year sees the 150th anniversary of Josep Puig i Cadafalch, who was not only one of the greatest architects in the Catalan Modernism movement, but also a politician, archeologist and art historian, as well as being a key figure in the national construction of modern Catalonia. In other words, his architectural vision was not limited to designing buildings, but also to constructing a society that looked towards the future. His most impressive works include the Casa de les Punxes and the blueprints for Plaça Catalunya, though many of his works are not so well known. With the aim of bringing more of his work to public attention, the exhibition 'Puig i Cadafalch, Architect of Catalonia' will be at the Museum of the History of Catalonia until 15 April, bringing to an end the 2017 celebrations dedicated to him by the Generalitat. The exhibition is an extensive review of his personal documents, drawings, texts and memories, which are linked to his great works.

Puig i Cadafalch did much more than study Romanesque art and design magnificent buildings. He was also the first president of the Commonwealth, the institution of self-government that preceded the restoration of the Generalitat in 1931, and was therefore a pillar of the Catalanist political project. This exhibition aims to draw attention both to his work and to his importance as one of the key figures in the construction of modern Catalonia.
