Richard Wagner and Adrià Gual in the Museu d'Història de Catalunya

The exhibition includes twelve lost panels painted by Adrià Gual for the Wagner Society and can be seen up until the 29th of September

Richard Wagner i Adrià Gual. Els plafons perduts de l’Associació Wagneriana  (the lost panels of the Wagner Society) is an exhibition that explores the relationship between the artist and multi-faceted theorist of Catalan modernism, Adrià Gual, and the German composer Richard Wagner.

Among the documents and artistic works on display we can highlight the twelve canvases inspired by Wagner and painted by Adrià Gual, an artist with close ties to the world of theatre, between 1902 and 1904. The panels were originally painted to be displayed in the Wagner Society but were only rediscovered three years ago among the Joaquim Pena legacy of the Biblioteca de Catalunya and will be on display for the first time.

The exhibition principally includes paintings, photographs and documents of Gual, but is also a representation of European Wagnerian art, and more specifically of the repercussions that the works of the German composer had on the second generation of Catalan modernist artists.

It is included as part of the celebrations of the bicentenary of the birth of the composer and the centenary of the Institut del Teatre and can be seen in the Museu d’Història de Catalunya until the 29th of September.

Other activities will accompany the event, such as the conference by commissioner Lourdes Jiménez in the museum’s function room on the evening of the 20th of June.
