A magical journey

Els Encantats portrays the consequences of the relentless breakdown of a family forced to separation, oblivion and loneliness in order to survive.

Els Encantats  is a peak in the Pyrenees crowned by two spires, the Encantat Gran and the Encantat Petit, located in the Parc Nacional d'Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici, in the Pallars Sobirà region. Its name inspired the title of a text by the scriptwriter, author and theatre director David Plana. Awarded the Frederic Rosa Prize in 2015, Els Encantats se puede ver en la Sala Beckett hasta el 9 de abril dentro del ciclo La família (o la família?).

Directed by Lucia del Greco and starring Guillem Font, Sandra Pujol, Òscar Rabadán and Hanna Tervonen, the play tells the story of a symbolic journey in search of good memories, with the complexity of relationships between parents and children as a backdrop. Arnau and Bruna organise a family getaway with their father to Aigüestortes, the last place where they were happy, one distant summer during their adolescence.

Els Encantats opens the doors to the intimacy of a broken family that, in an act of faith and hope, tries to return to the genesis of that rupture, to the moment when time stopped and their perception of the world changed forever. The characters want to evoke the moment of enchantment: that crack which, with the passage of time, grew deeper and deeper and undermined the foundations of the family to the point of decomposition.

From the silence of that night will emerge traumas, guilt and reproaches from the past, which will give way to a phantasmagoric universe in which the boundaries between reality and imagination will blur and in which mysterious creatures will conquer the thoughts of the characters, irremissibly distancing them from the possibilities of reconstruction and forcing them to survive in solitude.

Tickets to see the performance cost 18 euros and can be purchased in advance by clicking here.
