Salvador Espriu's Phaedra opens the season in the Teatre Lliure

On the 7th of September, Núria Espert and Lluís Pasqual remember “Una altra Fedra, si us plau”, the play written for them by the Catalan author in 1977

Performed in February, 1978, in the Teatre Municipal, Gerona, and in March, in the Teatre de Barcelona, Una altra Fedra, si us plau (Another Phaedra, if you please), is the final dramatic work by Salvador Espriu. Written in 1977 at the request of Núria Espert, the play will inaugurate the season at the Teatre Lliure in a one-off performance on Saturday, the 7th of September.

Recordant la Fedra (Remembering the Phaedra) is a dramatized reading of the play in which the protagonists also speak about the evolution of the original Phaedra. The event will also include remembrances of other instances in the theatre at the time, such as the prison sentence passed down on Els Joglars, or the first visit to the theatre by Josep Taradellas following his return from exile.

At the time, aside from the presence of Núria Espert in the role of Phaedra, the performance included Carme Carbonell, Joan Sala, Gabriel Renom and Abel Folk in the role of Hippolyta (one in Gerona, the other in Barcelona), Conchita Bardem, Lluís Torner, Nadala Batista and Pawel Rouba and Joan Faneca playing Tanatos. Fabià Puígserver was in charge of staging and wardrobe and Josep M. Arrizbalaga, the music.

On this occasion, in addition to Espert and Pasqual, Montserrat Carulla, Abel Folk, Pere Arquillué, Josep Bassal, Joan Faneca, Laura Aubert, Paula Blanco and David Verdaguer will also take part. The reading is programmed as a tribute to the poet during the centenary celebrations of the year of his birth.
