The saxophone of Peter King illuminates the Mas i Mas Festival

King will visit Barcelona on his 75th birthday tour

Even though he may be about to turn 76 years old, iconic saxophonist  Peter King is still on his 75th birthday tour – it’s a nice figure and a great excuse for going to see a living legend in European jazz; one with his own characteristic style and sound.

King’s virtuosity has influenced many musicians belonging to later generations, including names like Philly Joe Jones, Zoot Zims and Nat Adderley, who have all called upon him to perform and record with them. In Barcelona he will be accompanied by his own quartet, aided by Joan Monné on piano, Masa Kamaguchi on bass and percussionist Stephen Keogh.

Barcelona’s Jamboree is set to host Peter King’s only concert in the city. The club has maintained a special relationship with jazz throughout its lifetime and has seen performances by iconic names like Ray Charles, voices like Jon Hendricks and Anita O’Day, and figures from the field of rock like Van Morrison and the Rolling Stones’ Charlie Watts.
