Science for everybody!

Have you ever seen a protein or a gene sequence? On October 5 you can see it at the PRBB, among many other things

Once again, on Saturday October 5 the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) organizes an open day from 10 am to 7 pm. Scientists and PRBB staff will dedicate the day, completely voluntarily, to explain what they do. They will play with science, talk about the projects they are working on, and show you their labs.

Guided tours of the building: from 10am to 7pm
Do you know the inside of the PRBB building? Discover it through the corridors and laboratories with the help of PRBB researchers. The full tour lasts an hour and consists of an introductory talk and a circuit around the building that includes laboratories and facilities where the researchers present and explain their work. Register here in advance and save the queues!

Experiments and activities: from 10am to 6pm
Extracting your own DNA, making "genetic" bracelets with your name, looking through a microscope or measuring your cardiovascular health will be some of the workshops and experiments that you can do throughout the day. With simple experiments you will have fun doing science!

Scientific Conversations: from 11am to 6pm
At the Ramon y Cajal and Charles Darwin rooms there will be several 45-minute talks during the day, in Catalan and Spanish. PRBB researchers will discuss topics as diverse as genetics and surnames, air pollution, bioinformatics, immunology, Alzheimer's disease, the boundaries of synthetic life and more ...

Scientific coffee at 7pm at the PRBB Square
The biology of sex

What is love in neurobiology? Why does it make us feel so good and so bad at the same time? What physiological differences exist between love and sex? What are the connections between mind and genitals?

- Mara Dierssen, neurobiologist and researcher at the Centre for Genomic Regulation.
- Pere Estupinyà, writer and scientist, author of "S=EX2. The Science of Sex".
- Elena Crespi, psychologist, sex therapist and sotsdirector of the Institut d'Estudis de la Sexualitat i la Parella.

Three points of view discussing a very interesting topic. The public can participate, give opinions and ask, over coffee and pastries to make the session fun and friendly. And you can send all your questions beforehand via twitter, using #prbbcafè.
