L'original posada en escena de 'La flauta màgica' recorda el cinema mut dels anys 20

The season starts at the Liceu Opera House with The Magic Flute

This original versión by the Komische Oper Berlin already appeared at the Liceu last July

The 2016-2017 season is due to start at Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu with one of the most popular operas of all time. The Magic Flute will be appearing at the theatre on the Ramblas from 12 to 17 September, with Wednesday 14 being the only day without a performance. This singular version of the opera is the work of the Komische Oper Berlin. It was, in fact, the opera that brought the last season at Liceu to a close, with performances throughout the last half of July.

Die Zauberflöte by Wolfang Amadeus Mozart has been performed on multiple occasions at the Gran Teatre del Liceu since its debut there on 15 January 1925 though the upcoming production is probably the most original. This is, to a large degree, because of its staging, which transports the spectator to the world of the silent films of the 1920s.

The opera, which has two acts, has a running time of three hours. Antonello Manacorda is the musical director, while Suzanne Andrade and Barrie Kosky are responsible for stage direction. Olga Pudova (Queen of the Night), Richard Šveda (Papageno),  Dimitry Ivashchenko (Sarastro / Sprecher) and Jussi Myllys and Adrian Stroper (alternating in the role of Tamino) are among the performers who will bring to life an opera that is set to celebrate the 225th anniversary of its debut performance in  Vienna on 30 September 1791.
