Grec 2019

The performing arts are coming to life in the forthcoming weeks of Grec 2019

The spectacular show of La Fura dels Baus, the history of the USA presented by Taylor Marc, acrobatics from an Australian circus and a daring journey with Shakespeare are just some of the events you’ll find in the next few weeks at the different venues of the Grec Festival of Barcelona.

This year, the Grec Festival of Barcelona suggests a journey around the international performing arts. From Australian circus to the United States of Taylor Mac, along with Shakespeare’s creations and a nod to our local roots with La Fura dels Baus, on the upcoming days you’ll be able to enjoy world-class entertainment.
Directed by Pera Tantiñá, La Fura dels Baus will perform Manes at the Maritime Museum of Barcelona starting at 17 July at 10 pm and for five more sessions until 21 July. Premiered in 1996, this revived show is one of the troupe’s most visceral, impactful experiences, as it inquiries into the essential life questions with a mix of emotions represented by rhythm and physical effort.

On the other hand, on 10 and 11 July at 8:30 pm at the Teatre Lliure, Taylor Mac will offer his particular vision of the history of the United States via music. A 24-Decade History of Popular Music is a true celebration of life which is being shown for the first time in Europe in an abbreviated form, since the original version lasts 24 hours.

From the antipodes comes the Australian company Gravity & Other Myths to present a new circus spectacle. Backbone will be on July 12 and 13 at 10 pm at the Teatre Grec. After their resounding success with A Simple Space, which was performed more than 600 times in 24 countries, the Australians are now offering this new show which is once again a collection of incredible and intensely beautiful acrobatics.

Finally, the play Les Feres de Shakespeare by the company Els Pirates Teatre will still be onstage at the Onyric-Condal until 28 July. Premiered on 29 June, this play set in the Italian city of Padua in 1594 offers a daring, irreverent journey with the mythical English playwright, which turns into a musical comedy featuring three women confronting a society that wants to turn its back on them. The play, adapted by Ariadna Pastor from The Taming of the Shrew, features performances by Laura Aubert, Lloll Bertran and Mariona Castillo.

You can see the entire programme on the website of the Grec Festival of Barcelona.
