The Austrian writer Stefan Zweig was an enormously popular author of his time, and retains its appeal even today. His essays, novels and biographical texts reach across generations thanks to his delicate descriptions of emotions and fine narrative style. Zweig committed suicide on the afternoon of February 22, 1942, in his Brazilian exile, accompanied by his second wife and secretary, Lotte Altmann, 25 years younger than him. The author of the work, the young Antonio Tabares, is not to influence the reasons that led the writer to suicide, that are likely the loss of his universe of spirituality, but in the attitude with which he faced his final moments.

While the writer and his wife take care of all the details prior to the fateful moment, a Jewish exile, returned from Europe, presents at home. Who is this strange and unwelcome visitor? Is he really Jewish, or an agent in the service of the Nazis? And why does he show so much interest in a sheet of William Blake that belonged for years to Stefan Zweig?
