“Seuls”, by Wajdi Mouawad, in the Teatre Lliure, Montjuïc

The Lebanese-born author himself stars in this critically acclaimed piece, which can be seen in four performances from the 27th of February to the 2nd of March

Acclaimed Lebanese-born playwright Wajdi Mouawad presents his 2008 piece entitled Seuls in the Teatre Lliure, Montjuïc. In the play, the author himself takes on the role of Montreal student Harwan who, on the eve of presenting his doctoral thesis, finds himself locked overnight in a room in the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. The night, however, lasts two thousand years, and Harwan begins a search that will both take him back to his very origins and pose the question of how we can rediscover ourselves having spent such a long time in the absence of our mother tongue.

Mouawad writes, directs and interprets the piece with the collaboration of Charlotte Farcet (mise-en-scène) and the Au Carré de l’Hypoténuse (France) and Abé Carré Cé Carré (Quebec) technical teams, which the author himself founded in 2005.

The playwright is the creator of the quartet Blood Promises, consisting of Tideline (1997), Scorched (2003), Forests (2006) and Skies (2009), and is visiting Barcelona to present his novel Anima. Born in Lebanon, Mouawad spent his childhood in France before studying theatre in Quebec, Canada.

Seuls is performed in French and subtitled in Catalan and can be seen in just four performances from Thursday the 27th of February to Sunday the 2nd of March.
