“Shakespeare’s Villains”, in the Sala Muntaner

Manel Barceló plays more than eighty Shakespearean characters in a monologue performance that can be seen up until the 19th of January

Up until the 19th of January the Sala Muntaner in Barcelona will be hosting Shakespeare’s Villains, in which Manel Barceló performs a frenetic monologue, assuming the role of more than eighty characters created by the English playwright, from Macbeth to Richard III, from Iago to Shylock, from Hamlet to Oberon.

Manel Barceló is a renowned Shakespeare enthusiast and has interpreted a number of the playwright’s characters throughout his career. On this occasion he interprets a critically-acclaimed text by English playwright and director Stephen Berkoff who, having represented the piece in various parts of the world for a number of years, has decided to offer the role, or roles, to other actors.

Shakespeare’s Villains is directed by Ramón Simó, who has recently directed other timeless theatre classics such as Fuenteovejuna, Cara de Plata and Caligula. Every evening from Wednesday to Sunday in the Sala Muntaner, Barceló will be offering a recital that critics have already labelled as unforgettable.
