‘Sleeping Beauty’

‘Sleeping Beauty’, Tchaikovsky’s favourite ballet, at Teatre Victoria

The St. Petersburg Festival Ballet and Hungary Festival Orchestra will be in Barcelona with choreography by Marius Petipa.

Sleeping Beauty has become one of the most renowned ballets in the history of classical music. Written by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, the piece has been performed non-stop around the world since its première in Moscow in 1890. The composer himself admitted it was his best ballet and that was, in part, thanks to the choreography of one of the masters of dance of the time: Marius Petipa. His choreography features movements with all the elements of a lasting fairy tale: poetry, destiny, the battle of good and evil, and, above all, love. The St. Petersburg Festival Ballet and Hungary Festival Orchestra are touring Spain and France with this piece, and we are lucky to have the chance to see them at Teatre Victòria. Based on the story of the sleeping princess and the prince who wakes her with a kiss, Tchaikovsky created some of his most beautiful melodies, which we are all familiar with. The performance features sets that take us into a world of fantasy packed with beauty.

The orchestra that will play the music, the Hungary Festival Orchestra, was founded in 2005 by Yaroslava Šimonova. They will be conducted by Vadim Nikitin, the famous orchestra conductor from St. Petersburg. Don’t miss this chance to see a beautiful ballet featuring talented performers. Sleeping Beauty will be at Teatre Victoria from 15 to 19 May at various hours.

Tickets cost between €20 and €65. You can get tickets on the theatre website.
