"Some sculpture, please!"

Up until the 22nd of October an exhibition in the European Museum of Modern Art focusses on 20th century European sculpture

MEAM, the European Museum of Modern Art, presents Some sculpture, please!, an exhibition focussing on the human form through a variation of 20th century artistic styles. The exhibition consists of almost 300 pieces by 150 European sculptors and is based around the private collection of the Arts and Artists Foundation with the assistance of professors Jorge Egea and Cristina Rodriguez.

The sculptors chosen include such illustrious names as Rodin, Bourdelle, Bartholomé, Meunier, Dalou, Drivier, Naoum Aronson, Despiau, Kolbe, Pina, Delamarre, Letourneur and Tommasi and the exhibition emphasises the presence of female sculptors, including the Austrian artist, Olga Behr, French sculptors Marie-Jo Bourron, Noémie Debienne, Cécile Douard and Anna Bass, Sweden’s Dagmar Dadie-Roberg and Belgium’s Claire Colinet.

The range of artistic styles included in the exhibition begins at the end of the 19th century and covers the sculptural impressionism of Rodin, the stylised geometry of Art Deco, expressionism and German New Objectivity, finally arriving at a selection of the most pure, contemporary styles. The central theme of all the pieces is the most classical of all sculptural themes, the human form, albeit in the form of nudes, eroticism, movement, dance or sports, though the collection also includes a number of allegorical and mythological figures.

Some sculpture, please! can be seen in the MEAM up until the 12th of October, and entry is priced at 7 €, or 5 € for those eligible for discounts. More information is available on the museum website.
