Sónar is back at the CCCB

The festival will be reconnecting with the public again with 40 concerts and a wide range of conferences, presentations and workshops over two days and five venues, both in-person and online.

SónarCCCB 2021 has programmed 40 concerts and DJ sets with some big names from the international avant-garde scene, including Koreless, Tirzah, Leon Vynehall, Space Afrika, Emmanuelle Parrenin and Detlet Weinrich, Object Blue A/V Live, Il Quadro di Troisi, Die Wilde Jagd or DJ Nigga Fox, as well as a diverse representation from Barcelona and the rest of Spain, such as BFlecha, Bikôkô, Rakky Ripper, Marina Herlop, Verde Prato or Cora Novoa & The Artifacts.

In addition to the live performances, SónarCCCB will also offer video capsules created exclusively by artists like Yeule — from London, in collaboration with Somerset House Studios — or the show by JASS b2b Cem featuring Harriet Davey AV set, by Factory Berlin.

The programme will be completed with the conferences, debates and workshops of the Sónar+D, such as the conversation between Laurent Garnier and Juan Antonio Bayona, and with an exhibition space featuring local and international projects. The event aims to connect the world of art, science and technology, as well as strengthen the links between the artistic, scientific and educational communities of reference in the country. They will do so through five thematic blocks focused on sustainability, creative coding and artificial intelligence, new digital imaginaries, the cities of the future and new digital economies beyond crypto-platforms.

In total, there will be more than 60 activities spread over five different venues in Barcelona and other European cities that can be followed in-person at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) and through streaming at live.sonar.es and the festival's social media profiles. This large amount of content and formats, based on cooperation and knowledge exchange amongst creators, cultural facilities and scientific institutions, acts as a hub and a multiplying element for talent to stimulate local cultural innovation and overseas projection.

SónarCCCB 2021 is a project by Sónar and CCCB, with the collaboration of the Barcelona City Council, the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya through the Institut Català de les Empreses Culturals (ICEC) and the Hospitalet City Council.

The content has been developed and created by collaborators such as betevé, dublab BCN, IDEAL, Eina Idea, MindSpaces and S+T+ARTS, the Institut d'Investigació Biomèdica Bellvitge (IDIBELL), the Taller de Músics, Hangar, Soko Tech, EUMES, the Instituto Europeo di Design (IED), the BAU Centre Universitari de Disseny and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC).

In addition, the co-creative spirit of this SónarCCB has a special European dimension, with the participation of the artistic curator of other festivals such as Insomnia (Tromsø), ℅ Pop (Colonia) and Elevate (Graz) in the framework of the We Are Europe platform from the Creative Europe programme.

Capacity is limited to a thousand people per day. General admission is valid for the whole day and grants access to all activities. Tickets can be bought in advance through this link for 30 euros, or at the ticket office for 35.

The programme will finish on Sunday 31 October with a documentary marathon about electronics at the Aribau Multicines, in association with the In-Edit festival.
