Special Three Kings Carillon Concert in the Palau de la Generalitat

Dedicated to Russian dolls, will take place on January 6th at 12 h.

As is customary, on The Three Kings Day morning the Pati dels Tarongers of the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya will hold a special carillon concert by Anna Maria Reverté, this year with a recital dedicated to Russian dolls and with pieces written by Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich.

One theme will lead to another while, after the Prelude consisting of “La Festa dels Reis”, by Llongueres, and the Catalan traditional song “Els tres Reis”, the long tale “Album for the young op. 39” by Tchaikovsky and the short one “For Children op. 69” by Shostakovich are outlined.

The carillon, consisting of 49 bells and weighing more than 4.900 kg, was inaugurated in 1976 and replaced the former instrument, known as “little carillon”, from 1927. The instrument was created in the Netherlands in the 16th century and has at least 23 bells triggered by a special keyboard.

You can enjoy the concert for free in the Pati dels Tarongers, also known as Galeria Gòtica of the Palau de la Generalitat, but don’t forget that seats are limited and in order to sit comfortably you will have to go there well in advance.
