Summer night itineraries in Barcelona

The Museu d’Història has organised night-time tours through Barceloneta and the sites of the 1714 siege of the city

During the months of June, July and September, the Museu d'Història has organised night-time itineraries through Barcelona to acquaint participants with the history of the city from an alternative perspective. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8pm to 10pm, the Barceloneta district and the siege of 1714 will be the respective focuses of the itineraries.

On Tuesdays, the itinerary “La Barceloneta i el front marítim de la Barcelona ilustrada (1753-1836)” (A guide to Barceloneta and the Barcelona waterfront (1753-1836)), explores the peculiar design of the district, which was the work of military engineers of the time. The tour takes in visits to 18th century buildings as well as the labyrinthine structure of the area, very typical of the era – an example of academic urbanism which reveals the industrial origins of this part of the city.

The Thursday itineraries, “Barcelona 1714”, include visits to the more significant scenarios of the War of Succession and takes in the more relevant sites of the fourteen-month siege of Barcelona which ended on the 11th of September, 1714, with the assault of the Bourbon troops under the command of Philip V.

Both itineraries culminate in the same place, the museum terrace, a vantage point for a historical perspective on the city of Barcelona, where the 1881 per Sagardi restaurant will offer a glass of cava as a final touch to the tour.
