Summer Nights

Mediterranean music with Nits d’Estiu at the Catalan History Museum

July comes to a close with the ensembles Amine & Hamza and the López - Petrakis - Chemirani Trio.

The terrace of the Catalan History Museum has privileged views over Barcelona’s Port Vell, or Old Harbour. Therefore, it’s logical that on the hot summer nights they use this terrace to host Nits d’Estiu (Summer Nights), a series of international music concerts which becomes a collection of unique evenings. This time, they decided to invite ensembles that play Mediterranean music, which encompasses many totally different cultures with melodies that apparently have nothing to do with each other even though their roots are interconnected. Tradition and modernity, heritage and future come hand in hand in the last two concerts in July.

On 24 July, you’ll have the chance to listen to the brothers from Tunis, Amin & Hamza, who play the oud and the qanun, respectively, the two main instruments in classical Arab music. Thanks to their approach, which seeks to open the mind to new ideas, they have become the spearheads of a new generation, proud of their multiple identities yet open to and tolerant of new cultures. Then, on 31 July the López - Petrakis - Chemirani Trio will take to the terrace stage. This is a group of three young musicians with a repertoire influenced by a range of musical styles from the Mediterranean region. Their compositions draw from such different cultures as Crete, Iran, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Spain and the ancient world. Both concerts will be at 10 pm at the Catalan History Museum, and tickets include a guided tour of the exhibition Moda i modistes.

The price each night is 16 euros. You can buy tickets on the museum website.
