Tallers Oberts (Open Workshops) in Poblenou celebrates its 20th anniversary

This year sees the participation of 19 artistic spaces and 140 artists

From 9 to 18 September, coinciding with the fiesta mayor in the Poblenou neighbourhood, the Tallers Oberts de Poblenou is set to celebrate its 20th annual edition. The main celebaration is scheduled for 10 September from 6pm to 3am, featuring a street festival that is open to everyone, complete with DJs and live music. The venue is the intersection of Carrer de Pallars with Carrer Roc Boronat.

Other highlights of the Open Workshops festival include concerts, performances and workshops by 140 artists in 19 creative spaces including Hangar, La Escocesa, Niu, La Fundició and MQ Creative Lab. The fact that it coincides with the neighbourhood’s fiesta mayor is no accident: the organisers state that their aim is to “work in collaboration with entities in the neighbourhood to reinforce the relationship between its artistic-creative spaces and the citizens of both Poblenou and Barcelona”.

Open Workshops is an initiative that is managed by the platform PoblenouCrea!, consisting of creation-oriented entities in the neighbourhood, which has promoted a number of  initiatives and programmes designed to call attention to the creative work being carried out in Poblenou since it was founded in 2015. The organisers have a very positive opinion of the Open Workshops initiative because they believe that “the links created between artists and the neighbourhood’s associations has been strengthened,” and that “Tallers Oberts de Poblenou has contributed to making Poblenou a creative habitat that is attractive to new initiatives”.
