“Taste! Touch! Smell”, brings deafblindness to the Palau Robert
From the 21st to the 23rd of July, a co-production by Els Comediants and the Alícia Foundation portrays the reality of this disability via a culinary journey through the senses
As part of the programme for the Grec Festival of Barcelona, Tasta! Toca! Olora! (Taste! Touch! Smell!) is an attempt to raise the general public’s awareness about a disability that affects approximately 3000 people in Catalonia. Visitors are blindfolded and have their ears covered and experience a journey through the senses guided by taste, touch and smell in a performance that fuses equal measures of theatre and gastronomy.
The piece has two principal objectives, namely, to offer deafblind people a unique sensory experience while, at the same time, bringing non-deafblind people closer to this reality by heightening their remaining senses. In order to achieve this, throughout the performance the mediators communicate with the ‘spectators’ solely by hand, much like Remy the rat did with chef Linguini in the film, Ratatouille.
Taste! Touch! Smell! is a co-production of the Alícia Foundation and Els Comediants based on an idea by Àurea Millan and boasts the support of the Catalan Association for Deafblind People (APSOCECAT).
The performances will take place every hour from 10 am to 8 pm in the Palau Robert on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of July as part of the programme of activities for the Grec Festival of Barcelona.
